A look into my garage

October 3, 2007

I’ve been experimenting with some screenprinting lately. Fortunately I have the room to set it all up in my garage. It’s turned out to be a good work environment for me, it gives me a place to relax, draw, screen, and get away from the computer a bit.

wow, cool man. we used to get together for a couple of hours in school for some screen printing. it was great, like u said, to get away from the computer and still do something creative. we printed on all kinds of things, posters, shirts, cd covers, jeans..u name it. i wish i had the gear and room to set up a studio like yours. looks kinda cosy in your garage! damn i’m so jealous right now! :)

forgot to ask how you clean the frame from the black goo? we used a high pressure hose(dunno if it’s called that) after applying some toxic liquid…damn, you got me looking at screen gear! haha

How you clean your screens depends on the paints your using. I use waterbased paints and have a full shelf of Oil based plasticol paint.
The waterbased paints wash right out with a quick spray of the hose. The oil based gives you the professional quality you want, but it’s a pain in the ass to clean up……for oils I use paint thinner and acetone to clean the screens. It’s time consuming!!! even with toxic thinners the oil paints don’t come off very easy. A pressure washer would definitely help with cleaning…Thats my next purchase for my setup.

Other then that the rest of the screenprinting process is really fun. I find myself screening on just about everything too. I’ll keep updating with pics of shirts and prints I’ve been doing!

Hey Xylene works really good for cleaning up plastisol ink. It stinks and not good for ya but works way better than acetone. How do you cure your
shirts? do yo have a dryer? Really cool design btw

    cheers
